Five Athens County petitions invalidated and voter drive planned

Athens County elections officials invalidated five of 100 candidacy petitions for the full elections and review 21 more. Disqualifications stemmed from insufficient valid signatures and one for a nonregistered voter. Branch voter registration offices will open Aug 11 and 18 in five areas, with county residents able to register without living in the local community. The board will stay open to Sept 21 for last minute registrations ahead of the Sept 22 deadline.
