Three armed men snatched a combined payroll of $15,400 from two employees of the Safety Payroll and Bank Service Co. as they left Lowell National Bank in the city’s business district. They escaped in automobiles with bags of currency.

Sylvia North Carolina August 10 A Holiness preacher Albert Teester near death from rattlesnake bites given in a faith demonstration refused medical aid. He claimed divine protection and stayed in his pulpit then collapsed in the church yard. Teester 39 years old, insists no medicine though his arm swelled and skin burst. His wife died years earlier after a similar medical refusal.
OSSINING Aug. W 4% Salvadore Antonio his house was full of dope and gun a is avenged. First to pay last night for his murder was his wife Anna then Sam Faracci and Vincent Saetta. Before midnight they were dead New York exacted the three fold payment for a petty racketeer's murder. Mrs Antonio a 20 year old thin almost emaciation and weighing under 9 pounds prayed for mercy but governor refused She carried to the death room supported by guards who moved her only a few steps then she walked the rest defiantly showing a reserve of nerve doctors had said she did not have. Mrs Antonio persisted in her innocence to the last.
In Emporia Kansas three men were killed after a gun battle with Kansas Highway Patrol officers who suspected them of a bank robbery. Officers shot during a confrontation as two carloads of patrolmen encountered the suspects in a parked motor car on a side road near Emporia. Paring fingerprints was under way for identification.
Washington observers react to President Roosevelt's order to take possession of silver at 50.01 cents an ounce. Leaders praise a potential new era of prosperity while markets warn of inflation. Treasury officials say only small currency will be issued and prices could rise to $1.20 in hopeful west mines. Senator Pittman calls the move a step toward absorbing the silver surplus globally.

Willard Mercer aged 33 fired a shotgun at Mr and Mrs Gilbert Hartman at The Plains about 12 15 PM wounding them seriously Patrick Hartman hip and body while Mrs Hartman suffered a pellet wound to the right arm Witnesses said Mercer then jumped in front of a car in an apparent suicide attempt and was later removed to Shelterin Arms Hospital Athens He also fired at a man named Toothman but did not strike him The Hartmans were taken to Cherrington Hospital Logan for treatment and Mercer to Shelterin Arms Hospital unconscious state unknown later authorities said trouble had existed between the Mercer and Hartman families for months
Miners from all Hocking Valley communities will gather Sunday afternoon in Athens for a mass meeting at the Athens County Fairgrounds. National UMWA officers, led by Phillip Murray, will address the crowd with Capt. Percy Tetlow and other leaders also speaking. All Miners' League games are canceled for the day. The program begins at 2 p.m. The general public is invited.
