Ancient Nye Homestead Tells Of Early Athens County Pioneers
The 1821 Nye House behind Nye Cemetery at Chauncey reveals the Nye family's 1796 migration from Connecticut, with 11 rooms of walnut, hand blown glass and brick insulation. William Nye, 72, fifth generation, is a Chauncey bricklayer, joined by siblings and Meigs County descendants who spread through Nyesville, Kerrs Run, and Morristown while patenting salt works and canal stone usage.
