United Press report from Rome says the submarine F-14 lies 100 feet below the Adriatic after hitting the destroyer Missori. Divers tapped acoustic contact and reported all crew alive and able to subsist as weather calms. Admiral Foschini directs rescue with Brindisi and Aquila nearby.
Mexico City Aug 1 Possibility that Mexico will demand that Plutarco Calles serve two more years as president of the Republic appeared stronger today. Governors of all Mexican states will receive a petition urging that the constitution be amended to permit Calles' term to run six years. His term expires December 1 and he cannot succeed himself under the constitution.
An impromptu steamboat race Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati between the Tom Greene and the Island Maid ended with the Island Maid winning by a length on the 11 mile course to Coney Island. Both boats departed simultaneously and the Island Maid carried excursion passengers bound for Coney Island.

New York August 7 Democratic leaders will handle farm relief cautiously. National chair John J. Raskob says enthusiasm for the equalization fee does not equal endorsement. Governor Smith opposes the fee while economist E R A Seligman will study the entire farm problem for weeks or months.
Miss Viola Fell, district health nurse, began inspections of Athens school children for infantile paralysis symptoms. One case reported after two years without a county case. Symptoms include stiffness, dragging a limb, nausea, vomiting, headache, and sometimes cold signs. Parents urged to keep children from public places. schooling will continue with proper care at schools.
Dr T R Biddle of Athens representing Ohio leaves for San Francisco to join delegates from every state for the Hoover notification at Palo Alto. Senator Moses of New Hampshire will chair in Kansas City. Hoover will accept and outline campaign issues. Dr Biddle plans return Sunday.

Seventy nine cyclists from twenty three countries began the 165 kilometer road race at Hembrug during the Amsterdam Games. The event started at two minute intervals as riders set off to cover the long course.
Despondent over health, 68 year old Dr Homer B Robbins was found dead in his Hamden bed from a self inflicted bullet wound. He had not practised medicine for 20 years, working as a drug salesman for Columbus Pharmaceutical. He leaves a widow and two sons Benjamin and Randolph.
Clarence Christy of Jacksonville pleaded guilty in Justice of the Peace Felix Riley's court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was fined $25 plus costs after an arrest Sunday by Marshal Henry Williams of Glouster.
In Santander Spain on August 7 a sailor named Chiris, crew member aboard the trans Atlantic yacht Azores, disappeared after reportedly falling overboard and has not been located since.
A Chesapeake and Ohio shareholder filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission a brief protesting the proposed acquisition of Pere Marquette stock at 133 and one third dollars per share. The filing marks a minority group challenge to the deal.
Nelsonville August report quotes Oral Daugherty former mine workers sub district president saying recent union reversals vindicate his stance. He criticizes officials for politicking over wages and asserts operators sought peace long ago if not for leadership. He predicts collapse of the state union under current leadership.
The Athens City Council approved a new stringent ordinance on drunken driving aligning with a state law. It imposes fines from 100 to 600 dollars, suspends driving rights for six months to a year, with prison terms for repeat offenses and longer suspensions for subsequent violations.

At United Berkley club Knightsbridge London four players each received a complete suit in a single deal. He savaged Republicans accusing them of violating the Volstead act and mocking any pledge to enforce Prohibition while noting their long control of politics.

Moore stated a meeting would be called after the primary only for routine business pending action.
James Murphy of St. Clairsville, a student at Kent State Normal College, died in an elevator accident at the Franklin hotel. He was working as an elevator operator and was found crushed in the carriage, believed to have failed to close the door and accidentally triggered the switch causing the lift to rise rapidly.
Canton authorities seek John Alvarez an 18 year old youth who flew his new plane from Heath flying field Chicago on Sunday and has not been heard from since. He recently learned to fly and told his mother Mrs Lucille Alvarez he would be home Monday. His flying instructor accompanied him at take off.
Nelsonville Aug 17 Approximately 1383 miners are at work in the Hocking Valley and Sunday Creek fields, a gain of about 200 since the last check. Manhattan Coal Mine No 51 in Crooksville has begun cleaning up with 20 men, a process expected to last ten days to two weeks. Normal output at Mine 51 ranges from 1000 to 1200 tons daily.
Columbus August 7 Myers Y Cooper Republican nominee for governor charged the proposed overhaul of local government would strip tax payers of home rule He said he would veto changes including abolishing township offices and shifting control to the county unit plan of school administration if elected.

Gallipolis swimmer J. Plymale completed a 20 mile swim from Cheshire Dam 25 to Dam 26 below Gallipolis in seven hours. He swam with Dr. Bossard James Danner and Charles Swanson aboard a Holzer hospital boat as choppy waters challenged him. He finished near Dam 26 and received a certificate from lockmaster W. B. Childers confirming no current aid.
Anderson Burba 42 a farmer and his children Ruth and Harold were killed when their car was hit by a Big Four train at a grade crossing five miles south of Kenton.

Mrs Sarah DeWees, 89, died at home in New Marshfield at 4 30 am after paralysis. She is survived by Hamilton T DeWees who cared for her. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 730 at the Methodist Episcopal Church conducted by Rev F L Wellston, in New Marshfield.
