Athens County endures a heat and drought spell as the Ohio University Weather Bureau reports a prolonged high pressure system. No rain is expected soon with normal August and September rainfall unlikely, and crops unlikely to benefit from any late showers.
John MacDonald who traveled from Baltimore to testify in the Mooney and Billings murder trials says he has finished his repudiation and plans to seek excusal from a retrial under way. Chicago police and state investigators said the murders of Alfred J. Lingle a Tribune reporter and gang leader Jack Zuta are connected. Chief Investigator Pat Roche indicated finding the Lingle killer would point to one of seven men who killed Zuta in a Delafield Wisconsin resort last Friday. He and Sheriff Herbrand traveled to Wisconsin to aid the inquiry. They believe Zuta May have been betrayed by a woman who tipped off rival gangsters.
Clyde Simmons was fined $25 and costs in Magistrate Carl H Porter s court on a charge of recklessly operating an automobile. The affidavit signed by Captain Richard Benton of the Salvation Army stated Simmons ran into his car on July 4. Simmons pleaded guilty.
Detroit August 4. With the first all water air cruise set for Thursday morning, final preparations were under way. Eighteen planes are scheduled to take off for the 2,572 mile journey.

Cincinnati August 4 Stanley C Jiggs Hoffman operations manager for Embry-Riddle Company claimed a new altitude record for planes with a 40 horsepower engine or less. Flying a tiny Aeronca C2 he ascended 15000 feet above Lunken Airport, 2246 feet above the previous official record.
Looters plundered three local stores over the weekend, taking about 550 dollars in cash and merchandise. The thefts occurred within 200 feet of the police station and Lorain County Jail, leaving officers unusually grim as they investigate the incidents.

Two 19 and 20 year old Los Angeles men arrested after a detective disliked their looks confessed to the two year old murder of Ralph O. Trump USC student. Jacques Samaniego claimed kinship to Ramon Navarro and Wilbur Mossberg said they were the two bandits who tried to rob Trump and his companion killing the student.
Oscar Weller and Wolf Hirth announced they would abandon their proposed Berlin to United States flight. The pair had traveled from England to Scotland then Iceland and arrived from Kaldnarnes. They planned to dismantle their plane and ship it to the United States aboard the Minnedosa.
Medina Ohio August 4 The third child Arnold Ware McDonald six was recovering after drinking milk believed poisoned by white awake root from cows. Brothers Dale ten and Betty two died from effects. Milk from the McDonald cows sent to Wooster for analysis.
At Galion Ohio three men Karl Sites 27 Fred Mansa 24 and Kenneth McCarthy 24 are to be returned from Ohio Penitentiary to face murder charges in the death of Ralph Wilcox who died from a wound after a June 27 holdup. Prosecutor J tindley Mears said information will be filed with the grand jury soon.
