A 17 year old Athens youth, David Walraven, drowned when a small craft swamped on Lake Burr Oak Sunday afternoon. Clar ence Carsey, 49, and his two children were aboard. lifebelts were reportedly on board but out of reach as the boat sank. The body was recovered about 5 p.m. with aid from park staff and local responders. This marked the lake's second drowning in 13 years of operation.

Car Crash Kills Man on Route 56 Near Laurelville
Gaylord Radcliff 57 of 38 West State Street died when a car driven by Armour Wilson Radcliff 20 left Route 56 and struck a bridge abutment in wet conditions three miles southeast of Laurelville Hocking County.
