County approves $41 420 infirmary contract with Athens firm
The county board of commissioners awarded the new infirmary contract to Charles Kircher of Athens for 41 420 02 dollars. Eleven bids were submitted with Kircher underbidding the next lowest by over 1300 dollars. construction is to begin immediately and finish by November 1. The brick two story building will measure 180 by 168 feet and house 106 inmates, with fire safety features and a hilltop reservoir for quick suppression. The old infirmary burned September 19. a temporary structure remains in use.

Mrs. Hill aged 55 lived on Mill Street at death. She leaves a husband and a daughter about five. She was the daughter of Z Fulton of Coolville Ridge and sister of Mrs. Harvey Williams.

Recommendations by Insurance League for Athens Fire Protection
A Thursday meeting in the Athens mayor's office heard the Fire Insurance League of Ohio propose a central firehouse with tower and a full-time attendant, updated equipment, an electric standpipe valve under water works control, chief-oversight of gear, secure hose storage, a modern hook and ladder track with chemical tanks, and limited use of old 2.5 inch hose only in emergencies. A ten-member committee was named to work with the council next Monday to plan implementation.

Bolus Dies at State Hospital After Mental Crisis
Richard Bolus aged about fifty died Sunday at the state hospital where he had been confined for two weeks. He went to Osage county Kansas to visit relatives and became suddenly insane. An attempt to admit him in Kansas failed due to non-resident status. Bolus had lived previously at Luhrig and has a daughter in Corning. He was the third family member to be an inmate of the local state hospital.

Death of York Pioneer Henry Devore at 85
Henry Devore died Sunday at his home in Hamley Ran after a pneumonia illness. An October pioneer of the county, he was highly respected. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Salem church with Rev. L. B. Sparks of Nelsonville officiating. Interment followed at the cemetery there. His last wish asked for the same pallbearers and minister who had served at his wife’s funeral years ago, a request observed as closely as possible.

Howard Resigns to Lead Albany Bank as Cashier
