Sheriff defends deputies after teens drown in cemetery pond
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri rejected claims that officers failed to act as three Florida teens drowned after stealing a car and plunging into a cemetery pond. He cited safety rules, limited rescue options, and video evidence showing deputies attempted entry before retreating. The incident killed two 15 year olds and a 16 year old from St. Petersburg.
