Police capture Lawrence Duffy Rollins age 25 and Carl Donald Rollins age 29 of Portsmouth after they fled a Vanceburg Kentucky jail where they were held on federal auto theft charges. They were taken into custody about 8 am at a local residence and offered no resistance.
Dr. Alexander Witkow, director of preventive medicine in Philadelphia, named health commissioner for Hamilton and Butler County. His experience led to the joint appointment covering both counties.
In Dana Point California fourteen year old Charles Allyn Seyfert died in a hospital becoming the fourth victim of a gunfight that also killed his father Charles Seyfert forty two and brother Tommy ten along with two sheriff's deputies. The shooting occurred Monday night as the Seyfert party faced two deputies in a Tucson Arizona family fight. An autopsy showed the father and Tommy died from .22 caliber bullets while the deputies fired .38 caliber guns. Sheriff Lt Clarence A Double said it appears Seyfert killed the boy before turning the gun on himself.
Buckingham Palace stated there is no plan for a Canadian or US tour next year by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The American Embassy confirmed no information on another US tour. Canada expects the Queen to open the St. Lawrence Seaway in April.
FBI data show youths under 18 committed 47.2 percent of major crimes in 1957, a 55 percent rise since 1952. Overall major crime climbed 9.1 percent with 2,796,400 incidents. one major crime per 61 residents, 12,660 violent deaths, 121,190 rapes and assaults, 61,140 robberies, 590,020 burglaries, and almost half a billion dollars lost to robberies.
