Four County Districts Move Toward Reorganization Plan
In Athens County south and east, Shade Carthage-Troy Rome-Canaan and Ames-Bern boards agreed to pursue a consolidated district at a Grange Hall meeting. The plan would unify four districts with a 16 mill levy for a new high school and a $13 million district value, while state aid would not drop for three years. The Plains district was invited to join the southeastern grouping, but The Plains officials favored continuing with Athens city schools for a broader curriculum.
