Relief program in Athens County cuts relief roll

Fred C. Shafer, relief director, says the Ohio system collapse won’t trigger emergency orders in Athens County. About 473 families, 1650 people, receive food orders worth 1.10 per adult and 0.55 per child weekly. 63 families were cut last week for not meeting criteria. The effort focuses on eliminating non deserving cases and pushing heads of families toward employment, with optimism about mine work reducing relief load this summer.
