Columbus report says Governor Davey weighs soup kitchens to aid 350000 needy after Senate votes on a 7000000 Nichols relief bill. House set to vote on Hum’s income tax bill expected to raise 15000000 annually following Tuesday failure.
Gov. Martin L. Davey told the Jeffersonian Day banquet in Lima that new taxes are certain in Ohio despite Senate actions. He stressed relief aid will continue and pledged that the state will not let relief clients starve.
Senator Keith Lawrence says he does not know what measures could avert a relief crisis if the Nichols Bill is defeated and doubts passage of any relief bill by Thursday. Governor Davey signals a veto if the Nichols Bill passes both houses, citing use of $7,000,000 from an empty General Revenue Fund. The income tax proposal taxes incomes 3 to 9 percent with exemptions and directs 60 percent to the public school fund and 40 percent to local government after costs.
Three armed bandits with sawed off shotguns robbed the Hall Street branch of the National Bank of Grand Rapids. They escaped in a car with about $25,000, fleeing north, close to the police precinct.
A police patrol wagon carrying 16 prisoners stalled en route to jail in Chicago. Officers were unable to fix it until one prisoner stepped out and readjusted the carburetor, enabling the vehicle to proceed.

Premier Mitchell Hepburn demanded the resignations of David A. Croll Ontario labor minister and Arthur W. Roebuck attorney general after the Oshawa General Motors strike. Croll and Roebuck opposed Hepburns stance against what he called the forces of John L. Lewis and Communism marching together. Their resignations would trigger an Ontario government emergency and make a general election likely.

The American Bar Association reported a poll of over 70 000 lawyers showing four to one opposition to President Roosevelt's supreme court plan. Ohio results favored the plan 741 to 3634 against while West Virginia lawyers voted more than five to one against the plan.
A determined bloc of Democratic senators aims to push Roosevelt's judiciary program forward despite White House opposition. They claim about 65 Senate votes and will continue until the President himself rejects compromise. Roosevelt offered no comment at a recent press conference.
EAST LIVERPOOL U P Hopes for settlement of a seven day holiday by 600 union potters were dashed as strikers voted against a proposed secret ballot on returning to work. President James M. Duffy of the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters had revoked the local charter after labeling the walkout outlaw and asked for the vote.
Ed D. Schorr, Republican state chairman, filed a petition with the attorney general to certify a summary of the new law changing how vacancies in the county commissioner office are filled. The move tests whether the legislature can attach an emergency clause to bills not truly emergencies to avoid a referendum. The petition was signed by 100 electors in Columbus.
Four persons were injured and about 30 were taken to hospital today when a Lake Shore electric interurban car jumped the tracks and struck a steel trolley pole in Lakewood a Cleveland suburb.

In Tallahassee a state pardon board had given Robert N. Lawson a conditional pardon for auto larceny to enable tuberculosis treatment. The board revoked the pardon after Lawson allegedly stole a car and forged a check en route to the hospital.
