A smoky tunnel blaze in Chicago's sanitary district killed 12 workers and three firemen. Fifteen survivors, eight firefighters and seven tunnel workers, escaped as gas and fumes hampered rescue efforts. Crowds and police swarmed the scene as divers and rescuers battled heat and toxic air.
United Press reports from Madrid describe intense excitement at the royal palace as the Bourbon regime collapses. The king and queen are busy with preparations for possible exile, with options including a direct sea voyage to England or a train to Paris.

Crestline Ohio April 14 Two deputy sheriffs without guns could not stop Rupert Lopher 32 alias Roy Brown from dashing away after alighting from a train for lunch. Dr John H Berry superintendent of the Athens State Hospital is improving gradually after surgery for a sinus infection at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. He returned home Monday and his condition is favorable for further improvement.
Fred Millican of Athens was fined $25 plus costs and bound over to the Athens County Grand Jury under a 300 bond on indecent exposure after an Athens City Court hearing for intoxication. He was arrested Sunday night by Athens police. Margaret Jewett, a Black resident of Athens, was fined $5 and costs for intoxication.
The Plains High School senior class will stage a three act comedy titled Honor Bright by Samuel French on April 22 and 23 in the high school auditorium. directed by Sally Kinsey from Ohio University's Dramatics Department and Louise Jane Diver an English teacher at The Plains.

Pilota James Grove age 21 and Edward Krider age 20, both of Baltimore, Md, escaped serious injury when their aircraft crashed in flames on the Wheeling Moundaville highway in an almost miraculous rescue.
Cleramile Wigal of Coolville is granted a divorce from Charles Wigal in Athens County Common Pleas Court. The petition cites gross neglect of duty by the husband as the basis for the dissolution of the marriage filed by Mrs. Wigal.
