Oldest House in Athens Framed for Local Structure History
A long account traces the Whitmore log house from its 1507 origin near Ohio University through moves on East State Street and later use, detailing ownership shifts from Leonard Jewett to PerkIngs and Guil der, and noting its framing as a residence in modern Cast State Street. The piece also covers the nearby Academy's 1909 and 1841 fate, lottery era funds, and the evolving campus landmarks in Athens.
