Judge rules Kalman cannot claim right to trespass protest
An Athens County judge denied Eliot Kalman of Athens the ability to argue at trial that he had a privilege to enter a chained off area in front of a courthouse directory protesting church establishment. The hearing focused on whether the area is a public forum and if closing it serves a government interest. County officials testified the chains protected directory maintenance, courthouse access, and safety, while Kalman argued First Amendment protections.
