Land Questions in Meigs County Clarified Revenue
Meigs County revenue from school and ministerial lands grows as gas and oil wells are taxed on a graduated royalty scale rather than a flat rate. James C. Fowler of the state auditor's office has visited Meigs to explain the policy and its approvals by oil and gas firms. Inquiries to the Auditor of State or local county auditor reveal land status and trusts. The 1763 law set aside one thirty sixth of lands for public education, noted in records.
