A severe cyclone ravaged Athens and surrounds near 10 am Sunday, wrecking the Athens Journal office with presses and thousands of election tickets ruined. A.T. Lawhead and Edson Cooley escaped the collapsing brick building as debris scattered, damaging nearby structures and injuring no one seriously.

Murderer Sheets Executed After Confession in Somerset
Milton Sheets was hanged at the Somerset County jail after a full confession to the Pa murder of Augustus Gloesner. He was captured in Athens weeks earlier by Marshal Finsterwald and Policeman Burdette while armed, later becoming careless and unarmed before arrest. Francis W. Tipton Dies at Logan Lived Long in Troy
Francis W. Tipton, a longtime Troy township resident, died of heart failure at his Logan home. Born December 21, 1821 in Jefferson County Ohio, he farmed, built a store at Torch, shipped lumber, and later ran a mercantile business in Unionport. He married Elizabeth Cole in 1844 and Snapphing O. Osked in 1880, leaving a large family including nine children. Funeral services were held in Torch with many relatives in attendance.

Albany reports the death of Mrs Will Moler at her home at 11 o'clock this morning after a lingering illness described as consumption. Her husband had done all possible to fight the disease. She had spent part of last year in the pine forests of the Carolinas, returned home early in winter, and died peacefully. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Woman Charged with Bigamy in Rural Court Case
Mrs Elizabeth Shaw of Floodwood was arrested on a bigamy charge after failing to divorce James Shaw and marrying Charles Six. She admitted a prior marriage to Shaw at age thirteen and was bound over to the grand jury under a heavy bond.
