New Georgia State Board of Education Formed

Atlanta Sept 26 the new state board of education created under the 1911 education bill organized with Governor Hoke Smith as ex officio chairman and M L Brittain as ex officio secretary. Judge Lawson named vice chairman and Miss Celeste Parrish plus Professors Pagan Land and others elected supervisors and an auditor. The board outlined work plans and rural teacher institutes with supervisors paid 2000 dollars yearly and the auditor also drawing 2000 dollars. This meeting marks a new era in Georgia education.

Burton Smith Visits Campus On Legal Business Nightly

Burton Smith, brother to the governor and a Georgia alumnus, arrived from Atlanta on legal business affecting a large corporation. He toured the campus at night recalling college days with Clarke Howell, editor of the Constitution, a rival of his brother Hoke in politics.

Benedict Named President of State Board of Health

Dr. Samuel C Benedict of Athens was named president of the Georgia state board of health yesterday in Atlanta. Dr. Westmoreland resigned as president but remains a board member. Dr. Harris and other members discussed board affairs while a capital club luncheon followed the session. The board, with nine experts and a $35 000 budget, oversees water milk and food analyses and distributes vaccines and serums.

Long Litigation Ends In U S Court With $15,366.85 Verdict

The American National Bank of Nashville won a verdict directed by Judge W T Newman against J C Cooper for 15366 85 in the eastern division of the Northern district. The case stemmed from Cooper’s fertilizer business and alleged note deals with farmers and the National Fertilizer Company.
