Death of H C Stockdell Follows Long Illness in Athens

Local notice reports the death of Harry C Stockdell at his Milledge avenue home in Athens after weeks with paralysis. A Kentucky native, he rose in Atlanta politics and insurance, later moved to Athens where he led the Columbia Fire Insurance Company and engaged in civic work. Athens Chamber Plans Fall Activities and Banquet

The Athens Chamber of Commerce outlines fall plans including a new secretary office setup in the Shackelford Building and a welcoming invitation to strangers at city hotels. Henry Mealor Injured In Farmington Steam Pipe Blast

Henry Mealor, of Athens, was seriously burned when a large steam pipe exploded at a Farmington gin and mill. He was testing joints in a four foot ditch, thrown from the trench by the blast, with burns covering his limbs and body but his eyes spared. He was treated at Farmington and then brought home to Athens.

Georgia boy to lead tent meetings in Athens

Rev. Charles Butler, a Georgia-born singer and evangelist, will lead tent services in Athens starting September 16. He previously served as Torrey’s singer after Alexander left for Chapman and drew praise in the Philadelphia revival as “the young man with orange blossoms in his voice.”

The New York Young Men's Christian Association building project receives a boost as architect Hussey of Shattuck and Hussey Chicago plans to visit. Soligitor General Not in Canada Report Corrected

E. I. Smith Sr. explains that Hartford Insurance bought a list of Athens Mutual policy holders and policy expirations but did not reinsure or take over the business. He states he insured all Athens Mutual policy holders through his agency with solid stock companies and will deliver new policies soon. He cautions against other agents and notes his duties as receiver will keep him briefly in the office.
