The Athens Chamber of Commerce holds its regular monthly meeting at 5 o clock this afternoon in city hall. Prominent topics include hospital needs, the ongoing good roads bond campaign, and the hotel question. Members are urged to attend to support committees and community improvements.
Mr. Alvin L. Brooks of 305 Lampkin Street suffered chronic indigestion. He tried Globe Tonic and in the first week gained four pounds as relief came. Free samples offered, or one bottle for 35 cents at 80 Glayton Street.
Visitors to the Northeast Georgia Fair October 6 to 10 will enjoy several free attractions. The Banner notes a list appears in a separate section. The Atlanta News reports on the recapture of R H Thomas, who robbed a local jeweler of diamonds and escaped from Dworham coal mines. Mr Frank Booth a prominent Oconee county planter fell from a Seaboard Air Line train near Tucker Ga Monday night. He regained consciousness to find two dogs biting him and himself badly torn after falling from a fast moving train. Passengers appealed to Conductor Lane to back the train. Lane refused. A petition signed by Athens citizens, including the mayor and leading businessmen, urged Lane's discharge and warned of damages against the railroad. Booth contemplates legal action and damages.
From Atlanta come new race horses to Athens for training ahead of the Northeast Georgia Fair. The half mile track at Athens is praised, with large premiums drawing fast horses to the event in two to three weeks. Tomorrow at 5 pm the Laura Rutherford Chapter Daughters of the Confederacy meets at Mrs. M W Stovall’s to discuss dues and Winnie Davis Memorial Hall fund contributions. Children may use Piso’s Cure for consumption for colds.
Seaboard billposters report strong interest for the Northeast Georgia Fair. They posted pictorial ads along the line to Elberton and nearby points and canvassed crowds to Athens. They predict widespread turnout within days as October 5 opening day brings racing and large crowds.

The Athens Y M C A opened a new bowling alley yesterday afternoon. It was well attended by many association members who praised the facility as a splendid addition to the center’s attractive features.
The Athens Y M C A starts a six month course in business subjects on October 12 with classes in commercial bookkeeping penmanship and business arithmetic at set fees. Instructors include Herschel Carithers A S Parker A O Gibson and Professor DuBose with optional shorthand typewriting spelling grammar and a Spanish course possible if ten enroll. International exams will be held April 4-6 1904 for certificates.
There was no game between Atlanta and New Orleans yesterday afternoon. Atlanta rests until Friday when the Colonels face Shreveport. In other Southern league results Little Rock beat Birmingham 6 to 11, Nashville defeated Shreveport, and Montgomery also played.
