Eugene Ely world famous aviator died at the Georgia state fairgrounds after his plane failed to rise from a dramatic dip. He plunged about fifty feet in front of nearly eight thousand spectators, dying eleven minutes later after regaining consciousness briefly and muttering that he had lost control. Earlier he had a remarkable 3,100 foot ascent.
Eight days of soaring displays ended in tragedy as E R Ely lost grip during a high speed circle at about 50 mph. The aeroplane crashed, wreckage flying far, and Ely died after being attended by E R Dozier. Police kept crowds under control as souvenirs were fought over.
The concert by Sig Creatore and his band at the Colonial is highly anticipated with advance sale strong and a large audience expected. The Louisville Courier Journal notes record attendance at recent shows including a Jockey Club concert.
A small freight wreck near Woodville on the Georgia railroad yesterday morning delayed the returning Athens passenger at Union Point for hours. One box car overturned and the track damaged. initial reports of multiple cars smashed and two deaths proved false. No one was hurt.
The grand jury adjourned yesterday after noon and will reconvene Monday morning. Several indictments were handed up, and committees were appointed to examine county offices, records, and reports of county officers.

The tenth annual session of the Association of Seaboard Air Line Railway Surgeons closed with a banquet and plans for Tampa Florida to host the 1912 convention. Officers named include Chief Surgeon Joseph M. Burke of Petersburg and President S C Penedlict of Athens with other officers listed.
A feature of the Young Harris Methodist church sessions yesterday was a model missionary society organized by the Womens Missionary Society from Athens district counties. Mrs. W. A. Albright of Atlanta conducted the program. The Banner Tuesday report noted the orderly, active setup.
The Mobley brothers face murder charges in Clarke superior court with a possible delay as lead defense counsel T J Shackelford is reported sick at home. Other jail cases on today’s docket include two murder and two burglary bills.
JOHN D MEL L argues the four bonds will advance public schools in Athens and Clarke County. He says consolidating courthouse and school needs lowers costs, centralizes facilities, and expands high school access to every county child. He praises the plan’s potential to improve education without costly separate projects.
