Citizens of Athens resist the push for commission government citing waste and inefficiency claims. They demand concrete facts to back promises of three czars and recall removal limits, warning of loss of boards and higher costs under the proposed system.
Hon W F Dorsey, urged as a potential mayoral candidate under a proposed commission government, reiterates he will not accept the nomination under that system. He tells a Banner representative he has stated this publicly and privately and will not run if the commission form is adopted.
In Winterville Georgia on Tuesday evening two couples tied the knot at the First Methodist church in a grand double wedding. Miss Lillian Winter and James Marion Griffith along with Miss Ruby Winter and Hugh Carlton Towns celebrated with green and white decorations, arches of vines and chrysanthemums, and a Mendelssohn wedding march that opened the ceremony.
Grand jury returns true bill against Jack W. Scoggins and Malcolm Smith for murder in the Death of Horace Denton on Close Street. Scoggins remains at large while Smith is charged in connection with the Sunday night incident.
The twenty three year old wife of H H Arnold died yesterday after a brief illness at 765 Jackson street. Survived by husband a year old child mother Mrs L A Escoe two sisters Mrs O P Eberhardt Miss Eva Escoe four brothers W Y Escoe Jee Charles and Ed Escoe. The funeral will be from First Methodist church this afternoon at 3 30 with Rev jc C Jarrell and Rev S R England officiating. Pallbearers D L Benton Young Davis F G Birchmore Jack Gordon Howard Graham H Thompson. A sad loss to husband and child in the prime of life.
The Acid Grand Jury yesterday returned two new bills charging J C Moore also known as J M Lindsey with larceny after trust. He left an automobile and furniture and several thousand dollars in notes when he vanished from his Mutual Life of New York agency. A $114 check taken from John Barber Weir is cited as a key charge. Moore recently engaged attorneys T J Shackelford F C Shackelford and Joe L Deadwyler to defend him.
