Clarke County Plans Use of Convicts on Public Roads

Clarke county commissioners decide to employ sixteen felons on county roads under new state law. Convicts to be housed in the stockade, guarded by county staff, with minimal net cost to the county. Loss to schools estimated at about six hundred dollars, but roads and schools to benefit from improved infrastructure and attendance. Bonds to fund the program will be marketed after court-validated, likely at par or premium.
