Tomorrow at 10 in the city hall council room Judge C H Brand will hear quo warranto proceedings begun by Col T J Shackelford against Judge Henry S West to determine who holds the Athens city court judgeship. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jester captured four prizes from five Black Orpington entries at the Macon state fair with second and two fourth place awards and no cocks shown. They breed and raise the birds at home on Cobb Street and display a well kept poultry yard. They also earned prizes at Memphis Tri-State and Cleveland Tenn. shows with multiple wins among their hens. Hezekiah Stevens shot and killed his wife at a Broad and Rock Spring street home around 2:30 pm. The coroner's jury ruled murder, and Stevens was arrested hours later as crowds urged punishment.
Athens, Georgia exhibitors dominated poultry shows with multiple breeders taking first prizes and sweepstakes at the Georgia State Fair in Macon. Birds from Athens were first in several pens and overall top wins across shows in Allentown Knoxville Memphis and Macon.
Yesterday a false alarm rang from the Hardeman and Phinizy warehouse when an empty air pipe set off the automatic gang alarm. No fire, smoke, or heat was present as the watchman and proprietors investigated with the fire department responding briefly.

Cook, Miss Birdie Marks drives the Columbia for Athens Motor Car Co. The Griffeth Co. Schacht with Mr. Crawley and W. H. Jones and Mitchell Banner’s Daily Report with L. C. Brown join the Athens party. The Banner will print nightly reports from Mr. Warner and wire brief updates from other party members. The first report lands tomorrow evening after the initial day’s run.
J H Mapp, a devoted poultry man from Athens, won three premiums at the Macon State Fair after entering four Black Orpington varieties. His yard hosts a top display of birds raised locally, reflecting his active role in forming and supporting the local poultry association.
In Swainsboro Georgia Judge Richard R Russell candidate for governor and life insurance agent J E Wilhelm clashed after a speech. Wilhelm called Russell a liar and Russell slapped Wilhelm before bystanders separated them. Russell defended his two hour address denouncing Prohibition era issues and politicians.
Mrs. E. K. Lumpkin of Athens won several first prizes yesterday for Ruff Orpingtons and today earned five additional prizes for White Orpingtons. She captured second prize for best White Orpington cock, third for best White Orpington cockerel, fourth for best White Orpington pullet, and fifth for best White Orpington hen. Additional awards were not announced this evening.
A condensed grocery ad lists head lettuce celery white cauliflower bell peppers and pears from Arnold & Abney. Tokay grapes California Malaga grapes California oranges and fancy tomatoes appear alongside potatoes soap beans and other produce as sold by J. P. Fears.
