A letter from East Athens resident Young Davis urges placing the courthouse in downtown near the campus chapel to reduce long walks for tax payments and voting. Davis notes river proximity and tram absence create hardship and asks readers to back bond plans with no tax burden.
Lipscombs & Co. sold YWCA property at Thomas and Washington to E. D. Sledge. The former Bessie Mell Industrial Home site, later YWCA, becomes part of a larger purchase including Dr. I H Goss home at Han cock Avenue and Pulaski Street. The YWCA plans remodeling to house its girls, with the overall deal over twenty five thousand dollars.
The Knights of Pythias St Elmo Lodge banquet is postponed and a new date will be announced later. The postponement followed hindrances on the planned birthday event for Mr. T H Nickerson, long a lodge officer and current supreme grand representative. Fresh butter and large hens are advertised at M P Matthews.
Special to The Banner from Macon Georgia on October 11 notes Mrs E K Lumpkin of Athens won multiple poultry prizes at the Georgia State Fair. First prize Buff Orpington cock and hen and pullet, fourth pullet, second best cock erel, fifth best cockerel. White Orpington prizes to be announced later.
Yesterday morning Miss Birdie Marks and others left for New York to join the Columbia silver mounted car entered by the Athens Motor Car Company. Miss Marks will drive most of the way with Mr Keller along as expert helper.
After the circus, about forty cases were docketed for drunks and disorderly conduct. The mayor disposed of them, mainly involving nearby residents who celebrated circus day, totaling about three hundred dollars in fines. One offender pleaded guilty to using a rubber sling with tinfoil. witnesses described a thrown object but could not confirm the exact missile.
Yesterday in Macon Georgia State Fair Athens advanced with Mrs L J Upson leading Orpington wins. Her birds took first pens in Buff Black and Jubilee Orpingtons plus seconds and thirds across Buff and Black varieties and multiple cock and pullet placements. Judges planned White Orpington awards today.
Judge Wm. F. Eve of Augusta Georgia refuses to try any more liquor cases saying juries cannot convict. He orders postponement of remaining cases and declares near beer licenses do not authorize sale of prohibited liquor. He states the court must protect innocent defendants while allowing rightly guilty to go free.
In Camilla Georgia on October 11 a fast moving automobile struck and instantly killed Mary Perry seven daughter of Mr and Mrs T B Perry of Camilla Will Crosby of Meigs was arrested and jailed here as the case stirred the community over the loss of the unusually attractive child
Mr B F Kenny Finney of Savannah who was to address Emmanuel church members in Athens could not come and the evening meeting is foregone. Also a note on a food deal: eight for one dollar and a pound at Arnold and Abney core agents for Athens.
Cartersville Ga Oct 11 Mrs Annie Rose Man died in an explosion when attempting to light a fire using what she thought was kerosene but was gasoline. The blaze burned her beyond recognition. She was the wife of J Rosema a prominent Jewish merchant of Cartersville.
Dr. Andrew M. Soule president of the State College of Agriculture reports a successful Georgia State Fair in Macon. He attended a trustees meeting at Griffin and noted the fair’s splendid display for Georgia farmers and farms. He plans a return trip next week while the college exhibit draws much attention.
The Ladies' Garden and Improvement Club announces its annual exhibition on October 18 19 and 20 with a rich premium list and many exhibits. Members must attend a Friday October 15 meeting at 11 am at the Y M C A parlors to pay dues and receive premium lists.
Retail merchants will meet at City Hall on Monday night the 16th to organize a credit association. The plan aims to provide information for mutual benefit and every merchant is urged to attend and join.
Large audience at the Colonial Wednesday night saw Every Little Movement, with Virginia Houston starring as Kittie and praised for cleanups and performances. Ben Grinnell, Ryley, Miss Meade, and Neil McCay got solid notices, while the chorus and musical numbers elicited steady applause.

Riverside reports Athens High School football starts season Saturday October 14 at Sanford Field against R M A second team in a highly anticipated amateur clash. Both squads weigh about 135 to 145 pounds with Athens slightly lighter. Gate receipts fund visiting team expenses. admission is 25 cents.
