A local shop promotes personal guarantees with custom suits and a complete line of men and boys furnishings. Fall hats arrive and early shoppers gain the edge, becoming leaders rather than followers in style.
Free Employment Bureau aids 300 applicants in wartime relief
The Employment Bureau of the Vacation Committee at 38 West Thirty-ninth Street received 300 applications from out of work girls and women amid wartime depression with seventy-five securing positions. Miss Adams offered four years as bureau chief at Manhattan Trade School to aid, and fifteen women pledged volunteer hours daily. A $2 donation from a working girl was noted as helping others now rather than next summer.
