The Y M C A building fund received over two hundred dollars at the Georgia National Bank yesterday as installments due. The building committee urges all subscribers to pay now to ease expenses and speed up plans to begin construction in early spring.
Captain J H Rucker, long prominent in Clarke County public life, has been notified of his four year appointment as Athens postmaster by the President. A former mayor and county representative, his career includes spearheading Athens waterworks development, founding the Athens Belt Line Railway, and service on the Public School Board. Senate confirmation and bond follow before he begins duties within a week.
Mrs Arthur Burch will move the remaining bankrupt stock of the Misses Bradberry from the Southern Mutual Building to the former Goss property across the street. The historic building will be refreshed and made neat for the new line of business with expanded stock for fall and winter.
Thomas Eberhart aged about sixty died at his Dougherty and Iull streets home last night from a stroke of paralysis that began Sunday night. He leaves wife and six children Nellie Randolph Daisy Eberhart Bishie Eberhart Will Otto John Eberhart and sister Mrs Mattie Andrews. Reared in Athens he worked in dyeing and woolen mills and served five or six years on the city police force. Funeral plans not yet made.

Local ad lists fresh produce and staples with prices such as tomatoes 25¢ per basket cabbage 4¢ a pound lemons 25¢ a dozen and eggs in stock. Also notes fat hens leaf lard sugar and can goods with special cut prices and requests for rental of mules or horses by week.
The Athens overdraft in the National Bank is challenged by commission advocates who warn of debt and tax hikes, while supporters say the overdraft has declined, credit remains solid, and bond issues have sold well. They cite prior mayors and public improvements as factors, noting continued reductions and a sinking fund since 1910.
The House approved the general tariff measure by 154 to 103. The Smith Lever substitute for grading cotton bought on future contracts was adopted. The Clark amendment imposing a tax on future cotton contracts was defeated by ten votes, with a Senate dis disagreement likely. Arnold and Abney DS offer fresh apples and baking goods.
