Hon John Calvin Johnson ordinary of Oconee county died yesterday afternoon at his home in Watkinsville after a one day illness. His passing shocked the community and he was widely loved for his genial nature and service to friends and state.
Judge Johnson of Watkinsville died after a sudden collapse from acute indigestion and a severe chill. He was a prominent local figure, son of J. W. Johnson, and grandson of Rev. John Calvin Johnson, a historically influential divine who supported the Democratic party in Oconee County. He helped steer county affairs and led investigations maintaining order during tense times.
Augusta fans plan to attend the Thanksgiving clash in Macon as Georgia and Auburn, two storied rivals, meet on neutral ground. Auburn holds a 2-0 edge this season, with both teams aiming to rebound after costly losses. Special trains will carry supporters from Auburn and Athens to the game.
Mr. Bart Hill of Jefferson reported losing his overcoat hat and 25 dollars near the Central depot the previous night. Police recovered the coat and hat but could not locate any of the money.

J. W. Green, a young white man arrested January 7 in La Grange, pled guilty to stealing three camera lenses and other items from J. L. Schaub. He received a twelve month sentence in the Troup county chain gang. Athens Officer Evans attended the trial and returned home yesterday.
Cotton receipts are steadily mounting but unlikely to match last year's peak. Current stock exceeds twenty thousand bales with farmers holding firm at current prices, while wagon and railroad receipts total are shown in a comparative line of figures.
Mr. A C Howze of Birmingham owns a painting of Athens by Geo Cook once hung in the University chapel. The view, painted beside the old Georgia railroad depot in east Athens, shows the campus and eastern Athens to the river. It was presented as a wedding gift to Miss Claudia Clayton, a notable Athens belle, through Cook’s admiration and friendship.
Henry Cheney and June Massey, both described as negro men, were arraigned in Mayors Court and fined 6 dollars 25 cents each for disorderly conduct. David Miller testified the pair held him at pistol point on Prince Avenue Tuesday night demanding money, but no shots were fired. Police suspected a craps game involvement with several others.
Still slow in Athens as officials fear insufficient voter registration before the two o clock deadline next Monday. With only 557 registered, officials warn that advancing lists could force many voters to miss the primary ballot and urge immediate registration to avoid delays.

The Southern Association of College Women, formed to advance women’s higher education, will hold meetings in Athens and Atlanta November 22–25. The event features lectures, a luncheon, and participation from educators, college women, and local clubs, with Agnes Scott hosting an educational session and various addresses planned in Athens.
