A bill by C Fred Auslund of Oconee Heights seeks to curb cotton theft in Georgia by mandating numbering tagging or marking of every bale before removal. It would ban buyers warehouses or corporations from handling unmarked bales and imposes penalties of up to one year imprisonment or a fifty dollar fine per offense.
The Baraca Class of the East Athens Baptist Sunday School will stage an entertainment Friday night at the Baptist church. Doors open at Lovelock. A public, free seats event invites all interested men and women to attend, led by Rev. J. P. Cooper.
Miss Ruby Harbin, a Nashville teacher and Athens native, has earned high praise from principal and board of education after a successful past year. The Nashville Herald notes she is popular with patrons and pupils and plans to return for another term if chosen.
Mr. McConnell, who recently lost his tannery by fire, has allied with Shiney Plumbing Co. to finance and run the business. The firm now quotes on all plumbing contracts and promises guaranteed satisfaction. They will offer an unmatched line of supplies and solicit the public’s patronage.
Notice to Oconee Benefit Fund members that an assessment is due on the death of E A Goff of Augusta. Members should be ready when the collector calls or send payment to J H Mealor at the Athens Foundry. A few are in arrears on the last assessment and should be paid at once.
Local shoppers can find fresh home grown snap beans today at Arnold and Abbeys. The market offers seasonal produce from nearby growers and invites customers to pick up the new harvest this afternoon.
Rural free delivery letter carriers met yesterday morning to elect officers for the ensuing terms. President Root Pittard of Winterville and Treasurer W. E. Me of Bogart were chosen. Following business there was a barbecue at the fair grounds. The Banner extends best wishes to the association and its members in the district.
The session of mayors enjoyed hospitality in Athens and praised the city for distinctive advantages. They learned about local institutions and expressed intent to promote the state, aided by strong after dinner speeches and a late night banquet. The Athens Electric Railway provided transport for attendees.

Lucy Cobb Institute opens its commencement season at Seney Stovall Chapel with Shakespeare's As You Like It performed by the oratory class under Miss Carolyn Cobb. The program includes musical selections, a sermon by Rev A Stukely, alumnae gatherings, and signals a brilliant historic event for the institution.
Judge Maddox praises Athens for its hospitable people and enterprising spirit during a mayors' convention. He says Athens could become a great city and expresses honor in being a citizen, noting support from Judge McWhorter who agrees with his reasons for living there.

The Y M C A seeks thirty five thousand dollars for a new Alumni Y M C A building on the University of Georgia campus. A substantial share has been raised. Columbus and W Woods White lead state efforts with six hundred dollars raised locally and more campaigns planned until the June Alumni meeting to decide on construction.
Hon. Douglas Glessner editor of the Griffin News and Sun arrived home after visiting Athens and the Greater University. The prominent Georgian newspaper man is praised for influence in state affairs and past service as secretary to the Prison Commission.
The New York Sunday World offers a series of color Sunbonnet Pictures free with the paper. The pictures were first given to city readers two months ago and proved popular. Now the extended set will be available to out-of-town readers starting next Sunday with Picture No 1.
