Georgia defeated Tech with a late rally and a strong pitching effort by Thompson. The game saw multiple runs, key hits, and escapes as Athens fans in Havana followed the score. The tally stood briefly at four runs for Georgia and none for Tech before adjustments.
A boiler explosion at McCurdy Lumber Co. in Fruithurst Alabama instantly killed Howard McCurdy a University of Athens freshman and severely injured two McDaniel brothers while injuring Loyd Thomas Jr. The mill and surrounding timber area were damaged and news spread to Tallapoosa twelve miles away. Emergency crews attended the scene.
Father McVeigh will celebrate mass and give Benediction at the Catholic church tomorrow morning at 10 30. All are cordially invited.

The railroad commission approved Athena Railway & Electric Co to issue 825000 in bonds 750000 in common stock and 300000 in preferred stock. The new firm to organize July 1 will take over Athens Electric Railway Co and James White Power Co bringing five thousand horsepower to Barnett Shoals aiding Athens growth and industry. Citizens of Athens lead the venture steering rapid city expansion.
The city should plan a new throughfare from Palas to Milledgeet along Hancock Avenue to relieve congestion from double tracking on Prince Avenue and the narrow Hill Street driveway. With Athens growing, diverting traffic will ease flows from Oconee Green Morgan and Walton counties and reduce Hill Street and Prince Avenue load. Officials may delay this year but it should be a priority for next year while Prince Avenue brick work proceeds.
The Southern Mfg. Co baseball team meets the Bogart squad in a reunion clash at Stallings Park at 4:30. Lineups feature D Nickson H Arnold J Durham R Jennings B Ross and L Nunnally for Bogart against Doolittle Johns L Nunnally Denton Crow Sangler Colley Magee or Emerson and C Crow for Southern Mfg.
Board of Education unanimously approves adding two rooms to Meigs Street school to relieve crowding. Fifth and sixth graders from Boulevard Prince Avenue and nearby areas will now attend nearer to home instead of Baxter Street. Commencement exercises may move to the High School if Miss Caldwell's mother remains ill, and a new business course will start next term with a dedicated teacher. The board schedules a Monday meeting to elect the year’s faculty.
The University of Georgia senior class elected H. A. Nix of Commerce, Georgia as this year’s valedictorian. The five eligible candidates were D. F. Barrow, H. L. Lanham, T. Miller, R. Reyson, and H. A. Nix, chosen by ballot. Nix is editor in chief of the Pandora, a Sphinx member, Delta Delta club member, Senior Round Table participant, and varsity cadet captain.
In a slow game Pittard's team trailed after Weatherly's five run fourth inning. Weatherly won 7 to 4 with a strong offensive burst despite Pittard's weak contact and fielding errors. Batteries were Weatherly Vonderan Lanier and Pittard Edwards Pittard. Umpires F Farrell and Ruby. Pimiento Cheese and lettuce listed as local items.
The Fowler property near the Jefferson Road, extended from Prince Avenue, was purchased by W.T. Bryan, Billups Phintzy, and John White Morton. The site offers six springs, forest shade, and potential for a large park with playgrounds for children. The car line is expected to extend to the park, bringing a welcome recreation site to Athenians.
A meeting of the Odd Fellows entertainment committees was held at the city hall to plan next week’s events. Reports praised progress, homes secured, and public cooperation. Athens residents are urged to welcome over two thousand visitors with hospitality.
Halley's comet is visible Saturday night with a 1 hour 50 minute setting at 9 11 p m Eastern time as astronomers debate tail behavior. Moonlight may dim viewing on Saturday and Sunday while experts track the comet’s unexpected tail curvature over the Earth.
The Atlanta Georgian reports Frank Anderton of the University of Georgia will select an all S I A A baseball team for publication in Saturday's edition. Anderson has vast experience with G I A A teams and is well qualified to make the selection.
The reading audience packed the Crystal Theatre at 5 Lampkin Street as The Maelstrom drew standing room only amid bad weather. Morris Orchestra played 8 to 11 each evening, while Harawa Hall hosted live Georgia Tech game wire reports for Athenians unable to travel to Atlanta.
Rev J W M Morris will preach at the First Methodist church Sunday morning at eleven o'clock. Pastor Mr Troutman is away to deliver the commencement sermon. There will be no evening services.
