Masons and Elks Baseball Game Draws Big Crowd

A charity game between the Masons and Elks is set for next Wednesday afternoon and is expected to attract about two thousand spectators, the largest crowd on campus for an athletic event. Merchants promise to close early at 3:30 p m to accommodate and support the match.

May Party at Opera House Aids Winnie Davis Memorial Hall

Winnie Davis Hall received the proceeds from a May Party at the opera house last night. The May Pole dancing and the charm of the performance delighted attendees as the Daughters of the Confederacy organized the event to raise funds for the Winnie Davis Memorial Hall, to be completed within sixty days if possible. The group plans another entertainment soon to continue fundraising efforts.

The Boath of Mrs John Totty

Mrs John Totty Jr died after a brief illness Monday night at her Sandy Creek home near the city. She had been under medical care all day and suffered a convulsion late Monday. The community mourns the loss of a esteemed young matron. Funeral services are set for two this afternoon at theCiter Methodist with Rev KE D Stone of the city officiating.

Southern Manufacturing builds houses for workers near mill

The Southern Manufacturing Company is constructing several houses for its operatives and will have them ready for occupancy when the mill is completed. Three houses sit on Nantahala Avenue near the mill. others to be built in coming weeks as mill work progresses. A Kansas doctor tested meals on his four year old with long fever and found Grape-Nuts highly effective. The boy gained about eight pounds in a month and recovered well.
