The Great Council of the Improved Order of Red Men met in Athens with several hundred chiefs and visitors. Lucy Cobb Institute provided music as Mayor Dorsey and Chancellor Barrow offered welcomes, followed by speeches honoring fraternal unity and charity.

Compliments from reporters and officials marked yesterday's events as Red Men representatives presided in Athens at the annual Great Council convention. Officers for the next year were elected including Great Sachem L. H. Chappell of Columbus and other posts, with Columbus chosen for the next meeting. An unspent 26.40 from San Francisco relief funds was allocated to the Georgia Industrial Home in Macon. A Seventh grade versus Normal School baseball game ended 6 to 3.

Head Crushed in Fall Believed Caused Barksdale Death
W C Barksdale of Warrenton died from a brain hemorrhage after a fall near the Tie Southern Manufacturing Co plant by the Seaboard Air Line Railway. He was found unconscious with a crushed skull and transported to St Marys Hospital where surgery relieved the hemorrhage but doctors fear he cannot survive. He had lived near Nicholson and was about forty, single.

Athens voters to decide on three proposed bond issues
Athens faces three bond questions to fund sewerage and school and university improvements. Mayors and council members anticipate submitting fifty thousand dollars for two new school buildings and repairs, twenty five thousand for university campus enhancements, and twenty five thousand for agricultural college improvements. If approved, the election could be held this summer.

Train near Baldwin street trestle halts after track slip
A passenger train bound for Macon slowed as it neared the Baldwin street trestle on the Central Railroad. The track spread under the tender and the engine lurched but did not leave the rail. No injuries were reported though passengers were frightened. Nearby store notices advertise Yellow Crooked neck squash and Young Tender Beans at Arnold & Abney's.

Cadets Stage Sham Battle at Country Club Grounds
The University Cadets led by J. M. Kimbrough staged a mock battle with Red Men observers in a sham engagement at the Country Club grounds. T. E. Scott commanded the defenders, hundreds watched as cannons boomed and smoke filled the air before the attackers were repelled.

Doster Shot in Mintisen Fatal Wound Follows Trial
May 14 Mintisen Gal special report outlines a liquor case charge against Frank Doster, brother of Henry Doster. After Frank’s trial he was fined one hundred. Henry, previously in Atlanta, argued with Ezell near Jackson's livery stable, Ezell drew a pistol and shot Doster in the abdomen. Doster lay dying at his brother’s home overnight.
