Tech Beats Mercer 5-3 In Opener To Narrow Penant

Yesterday afternoon Tech defeated Mercer 5 to 3 in the opening game. Gates pitched for Mercer against Beane of Tech. Mercer had five hits and seven errors while Tech had six hits and three errors. Tech led off with two in the first, Mercer scored in the fourth and two in the sixth but Tech tied in the seventh and added two runs in the eighth to win. The teams meet again in Macon today.

Echoes from Operas at Branson Library Benefit

Last night at the opera house the production Echoes from Operas was directed by Mr. J. S. Atkinson for the Branson library fund. A large cultured audience praised the costumes singing and overall execution. Tennis match set between Georgia and Tech today

This afternoon at 4 30 on the campus the tennis champions of the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech will play. Admission is free and a large crowd is expected. Georgia's singles player is Deane and doubles team Lee and Hill. Tech is Couns man and Eagan. Last year the locals beat Mercer easily and hope to do the same against Tech, though they expect a tougher challenge.

Cotton stocks dwindle in Athens warehouses amid market shift

Cotton stored in Athens warehouses has fallen from over twenty-two thousand to about eight thousand bales as sales accelerate. Farmers report a fifteen percent cut in cotton acreage and fertilizer use, while some growers plant more corn with substantial fertilizer.

Obituary for W C Williams in Athens on Baldwin Street

Mr W C Williams aged seventy died yesterday after weeks of illness following an operation. A native of Madison County he lived most of his life in Athens leaving a widow and four children J H J C W L Williams and Mrs J R Williams. He was a Confederate veteran with the 25th North Carolina and a member of Williams Lodge No 15 IOOF. The funeral is at his Baldwin Street home at ten o clock with interment in Oconee Cemetery.
