Three young African American men Jim Taylor Sidney Norris and Claud Elder were jailed in Watkinsville on the Holbrook home killings in Oconee County. Officer Rose and his dogs traced clues from the crime site to a pine thicket and a stolen deck of cards.
Report describes a brutal night crime at Holbrook's store near Athens. Victims, believed to be Holbrook and his wife, were found with blunt instrument wounds and blood spatter on clothes and spectacles. About four hundred dollars is thought missing, with more cash elsewhere. Suspects Jim Taylor and Norris were seen nearby. tracks and recent clean garments arouse suspicion. Police sift evidence, including a pistol tossed during arrest, while family ties and bank deposits add context.
The council will act at the next meeting on a petition to lay a water main along Boulevard through the Southern Manufacturing Company area. Officials cite lack of funds and will study options for financing as the city weighs this urgent improvement. The Southern plant would help meet demand and support rapid growth in the district.

Yesterday morning Mr E L Holliman of Thomson Ga learned his son Ben Lewis Holliman was killed in a wreck on the Southern Railroad near Lockhart S C. The 30 year old fireman on the freight train died instantly as the mixed freight and passenger train left the track and plunged down an embankment. He had lived in Thomson for years and once clerked for Huggins and Son. The body will be brought to Thomson for interment.
The Athens council considers restoring mail service after a protest led by Aldermen Rhodes and Alder. A committee was formed to address the livery and district actions, forwarding concerns to postal authorities to regain mail delivery in Athens.
Tomorrow morning at Palmer's drug store seats open for Monday night's opera house performance by the Payton Sisters and their company. They promise a repertoire of new plays, staged and costumed to rival road companies, with intermission specialties worth double the admission. The Savannah News lauds them as the best repertoire company seen in Athens. Matinees are Wednesday and Saturday with 10 and 20 cent prices. Don't miss Mother Goose.
The electric pump at the waterworks station is out of service again. The steam plant is used temporarily until the new rotary pump arrives and is installed. The new pump is described as a beauty.
The mayor and council yesterday fixed the annual tax levy at one percent. Last year’s general expense share was forty two percent, down from forty five, with three percent shifted to the city hall bond account. The levy funds current expenses and fifteen thousand dollars for retirement of overdue college bonds.
A dispute involving Rev Schulz and his congregation of 100 of 200 families at Bethel Church escalates as he and his family flee to Parksville. A church trial at Freelandsville opens with charges of untruthfulness swindling board members and improper estate handling. Over 100 witnesses summoned. trustees accuse Schulz of misusing funds and organ-related improprieties.
The city council elected the board of health for the coming year. Named were W. B. Conway J. J. Dorsey George E. Stone T. J. Scott and T. W. Reed. George E. Stone succeeds his late father Ellison D. Stone and T. J. Scott succeeds J. E. Gardner. A meeting to choose officers will be held soon.

A letter from Mrs M A Lipscomb informed the mayor and council that public ceremonies for the Elijah Clarke monument were cancelled due to delays. The Elijah Clarke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, with Mrs Lipscomb as monument committee chair, formally turned over the monument to the city and asked the council to convey thanks to the chapter for its efforts.
