D L Payne Arrested on Serious Charge in Georgia
D L Payne, a white man from near Bogart, Ga, was arrested in East Athens for allegedly assaulting, beating, and robbing Henry Johnson near Statham, Ga. Johnson, found near his home in a dying condition, later identified Payne and said whiskey given him with drugged effects preceded the attack. Gov. Terrell offered a $100 reward for the capture with proof of conviction. Payne denied the charges and was jailed in Jefferson after admitting to beating Johnson in the woods. He is held on a $500 bond to await Jackson superior court.

Civil Service Exam Held for Athens Post Office Jobs
