Larry Gantt reports on Frank Holder’s methods to fight boll weevils in cotton, including burning stalks and litter, thorough weevil control, and continuous cultivation. Holder emphasizes relentless work, experiments, poisoning, traps, and long-term effort to keep cotton yields and combat weevils despite ongoing infestation.
In Athens and Clarke County the YMCA expense drive opened with 65 workers subscribing 3087 toward the 11000 goal. Abit Nix urged what Athens would be without its YMCA while Col Snelling rallied teams. Blue and Red divisions reported 65 subscriptions totaling 3057 with a supper served by directors wives and a dinner for workers scheduled Tuesday.
A golf watch found by a mountain climbing club member was restored to its owner, Rev. Benjamin F. Bacon of Yale University, who received it from an Oswego church congregation in 1892. The timepiece, found by F. W. Johnson of Vancouver at 7,500 feet on a jutting rock, is reported to be keeping perfect time after ten years exposure.
The leading Adverting firm and local newspapers inaugurate a large scale Own Your Home campaign. Posters will flood streets with firm names and business lines. Mr and Mrs J B Crockett and daughter Margaret plan to move from Athens to Dothan Alabama to make their home. The departure is greatly regretted by friends at the State College of Agriculture where Mr Crockett has studied for two years.
A Yale Bureau of Appointments survey found about 50 percent of American college students work to fund their studies. At Yale, 52 percent of self supporting students work, with Fresneda recounting how he paid room, board, books, and clothes through manual labor and various jobs.
Councilman McLeroy gave notice to reopen the sanitary closet issue at the Wednesday regular meeting after last night’s discussion. The topic, previously voted down, drew concerns from residents and council members about the best interest of those in areas beyond sewer mains.
W M Bryant a veteran Internal Revenue official urged Athens taxpayers to file their 1921 income tax returns promptly. He warned March 15 is the deadline for forms 1040 and 1040 A and explained losses or gains must be set up to establish deductions for future years.
The council will reopen the amount for school bonds at the regular meeting. A committee from the Parent Teacher Association and the Board of Education asked that a three member council committee be formed to thoroughly survey school needs and justify increased funding. The majority favored about 220 000 for improvements and enlargements, beyond the previously authorized 176 000.
New York plans a 17 story church hotel at Broadway and 14th Street. The building will house a church on the first three floors a Sunday school basement and a roof missionary school. Hotel guests face strict censorship with no card playing or dancing. Estimated cost is 1.5 million dollars.
Dr Arch Cree state secretary of the nationwide 75 million Georgia Baptists subscription drive, with Dr F S Groner of Texas, will speak in Athens Thursday. The unit plans a week of city and town meetings from Milledgeville to Columbus, with other leaders including Dr J E Dillard and R W Weaver. The Georgia program has shown strong early support.
President Harding nominated John H Bartlett of New Hampshire to be first assistant postmaster general. Bartlett, current Civil Service Commission chair, will replace Dr. Hubert Work who took over after Will Hays left the post. VESSEL GROUNDED FLOATS SELF TO SEA. The American Steamer Matoa ashore near Black Fish bank then refloated to sea bound Norfolk to Boston with coal cargo and no damage.
Capt John A Cobb, 83, Sumter county ordinary, celebrates the opening of the card market in Americus. He notes decades of loyalty to local shops and praises Americas as offering satisfying shopping with up-to-date goods at favorable prices. His daughter Mrs Stewart, who has lived in many places, agrees on the superior shopping here.
A partial page of a ten page letter, mailed from Atlantic City to Los Angeles, is reported as the confession of the murder of William D. Taylor. Captain David L. Adams says the unsigned excerpt hints at a man connected to the motion picture industry and notes a wife from South America associated with the case.

It discusses eye complexity from beetle lenses to human vision, noting photographs of beetle eyes and questions whether a beetle perceives pictures through its many facets.
Thomasville Ga Two additional incubators have been installed by the Thomas County Pool association and are now in operation. The new units bring the total to four large incubators. They are handling a high volume of eggs and producing thousands of chicks. Enthusiasm is high for the incubators and the results.
