Wreck of Georgia Railroad Freight Train at Swamp Bridge
A Macon to Athens extra freight train derailed on a trestle around four in the morning. The caboose and three cars plunged about forty to forty five feet into a swamp. Conductor Bruner and Flagman Pendley survived with injuries. other crew unhurt. The bridge is wrecked and crews will rebuild over several days. A second freight derailment later blocked local switching briefly.
