Georgia high school teachers hold fourth annual convention

The Georgia State High School Association concluded its fourth annual convention with officer elections and district leadership named. sessions covered mathematics history industrial arts English and foreign language with multiple conferences at the University of Georgia and a Friday program featuring round tables and seminars. a banquet at Hotel Georgian and talks by Supt A G Miller and other leaders capped the event drew hundreds of educators from across the state.

Smith to announce after inauguration for Senate

Avlanta Georgia June 29 Governor elect Hoke Smith says after his inauguration he will announce his candidacy for the United States Senate. The move follows a meeting with the inauguration committee and a letter read from Judge W A Covington. Opponents say the timing aims to solidify support and speed a decision.

New Post Office Boxes Added But Limited Availability

The department moved Sunday carrier rest to patrons at the post office, removing window service. New boxes numbered 501 to 668 fill spaces across three sections: 501–538 with 32 boxes, 541–630 with 90 boxes, and 631–668 with 38 boxes, totaling 160 boxes in use despite the claimed 168.

Legislature Actions In House And Senate This Week

The House approved Governor Brown's message and canvassed votes on key state offices including governor and attorney general. A joint resolution adjourned to Saturday and reconvened next Wednesday for Independence Day commemorations. In the Senate a lithia water resolution was passed for the chamber. A bill on railroads mileage tickets and a Confederate pension act amendment were received. J Fraser Lyons was granted the chamber's freedom.

Police Seek Would-Be Burglar At Local Real Estate Office

Police are hunting a man seen attempting to force entry at the rear of the Erwin and Company real estate insurance and renting offices on College Avenue. The intruder fled when discovered by Lee Bernard. the rear window was nearly removed. Authorities suspect a possible misentry into a bank or jewelry shop in the block. The ninth session of the University Summer School opened with 143 registered and 200 arrivals awaiting formal signup, drawing students from across the state and from several colleges.

City road work improves Milledge Hill streets

Improvements underway in Athens include laying large gas mains on Milledge avenue from Hill to Baxter, rebuilding electric railway lines on Hill street and Milledge avenue, and installing granolithic sidewalks and resurfacing on these streets to create better thoroughfares.
