Larry Gantt reports a bright farming outlook after visiting Clarke, Oconee, Madison, and Bibb counties. He notes reduced fertilizer use, rising cotton health despite boll weevils, large cowpeas and sorghum acreages, and widespread fieldwork as farmers tighten credit and push toward a prosperous post panic era.
In a June 21 1922 meeting the directors of the National Bank of Athens voted a paid vacation leave for President John White Morton to travel west for rest and renewal. A resolution praised Mortons leadership during hard times and noted the bank would cover travel expenses.
More than 125 youngsters in Athens have joined the free swimming course taught by Physical Director Jones at the Y. About 25 to 30 have already learned to swim, with a third lesson completed. Next Monday’s session will feature a parent-audience exhibition showing pupil progress alongside divers and liminers. Evening program starts at eight P M with morning classes for under ten at ten and afternoon classes for over ten at three. Also note: Court of Honor meets Friday at City Hall at seven thirty. and Switzerland competes with American cheese makers.
The K and B Sporting Goods Co announces a handsome new filling station at Lumpkin and Washington Streets opening Saturday July 1. The modern drive in building carries gasoline, oils, tires, tubes and auto accessories with tire repair and vulcanizing services. The firm already operates at College and Broad and will maintain the uptown Motor Life Oil Co. junction of Prince Avenue and Meigs Street.
Mr C M Wilson, with his wife and baby, leaves July for Atlanta to assume as manager of the Terminal Hotel. He has been with the Georgian Hotel for several years, most recently serving twelve months as assistant manager. He is regarded as a capable hotel man and deserving of the promotion.

Robert Arnold of Hampton, former Athens mayor and rising businessman, visited Lexington and Elberton for several days. He plans to return to Athens and contemplates a future run for the legislature from Henry County, with uncles who served in both houses.
H Abit Nix, Rotary delegate to the recent International convention in Los Angeles, gave a further report at the weekly lunch at the Georgian. He promised a future talk on the social side of the trip along Venice Ocean Park and the Golden Coast. James L. Sexton noted many graduates replied to letters seeking work in Athens and a committee was formed to aid those seeking employment. Members praised the YWCA and 1600 delegates with 600 visitors at the convention.
Funeral services for Fannie Hitt colored will be held Thursday afternoon at Bill's First Baptist Church colored. Interment follows at One deme burial ground on the Castleville road near St Marys Church.
Interest grows among city boy scouts for a Burton's Lake camp in the North Georgia mountains from August 1 to 15. Leaders Sexton Pendergraph Zeigler and Billings depart to arrange housing for about 100 boys with free transport and a five dollar weekly board rate. An Army cook will oversee meals and individual attention will be provided, with government equipment ensuring proper tents cots and stoves.
Special to Ganner-Herald reports the Georgia Branch of the National Woman's Party organizing to back an annual rights bill in the current legislative session. The measure aims to end discrimination against women and grant civil rights equal to those recently won in suffrage. Mrs. Gracie Bater of Savannah leads the state campaign, while Lavinia Bran of Shreveport La. assists as a national organizer and council member.
Special to Banner-Herald reports the Georgia sheriff association begins a two day meeting at Fulton County Courthouse with about 100 county officers attending. A Lakewood Park barbecue hosted by Governor Hardwick and Judge Tho H Jefferies featured as principal guests, drawing members of the General Assembly.
In Macon Georgia former mayor Glenn Toole was awarded twelve cents by a jury in his $50,000 defamation case against the Macon Telegraph. The verdict came late Wednesday and resolved the civil libel suit.
The Athens golf team opens North Georgia Golf League play against Atlanta West End Club on Saturday. lineup includes Hodgson Lawlor Kibbett Lampkin Soule McWhorter with six teams in the league: Athens Atlanta Gainesville Marietta Newnan Rome. A trophy valued over one hundred dollars will go to the team with the best percentage in league matches.
Lucy B. McIntire, Democratic Committee woman from Georgia, urges Georgia Democrats and women to back the party financially to defeat the tariff bill and elect a president who represents their ideals. She warns complacency risks losing national victories and calls on all to pay their share to keep the party strong.
Bali Hut returned from Atlanta Tuesday night with J. W. Kueh, a man sought by J. Bush, Jeweler, for paying a worthless twenty dollar check. About six months ago the man came into Bush's shop, bought a watch, gave a check issued on Comer Bank, and identified himself to several local merchants. He was jailed in Clarke county.
University notices urge students to register for summer school by Wednesday. About 1,054 are affiliated on campus while 472 enroll at the nearby program locations, highlighting strong campus participation.
Registrations at the University of Unity Summer School rose to 1626, split between the university and Normal School. Officials report day by day gains, with 642 Monday and 283 Tuesday in the university division and 472 admitted at the Normal School, signaling potential but not sure growth beyond four hundred more.
Co. D. Flanigen, founder era member of Athens public school’s original board, will end thirty five years of continuous service when he tenders his resignation at the next meeting. Representing the fourth ward, he is praised as deeply knowledgeable about the system’s history and needs. Citizens view his departure as a severe loss to local education.
Directors announce a plan to pay cash dividends on preferred stock this September and October. A special 8 percent interest debenture bond will be issued for the option of cash or bonds and may convert into 85 percent of preferred and 15 percent of common stock. Initial call price set at 115 percent of par with a potential profit of at least 15 percent for stockholders. Details on scrip conversion to be mailed to stockholders shortly.

Mrs Katherine E Malcom a longtime resident of Bogart Oconee county died at 4 am Wednesday at the home of her in law on High Shoal Road Pens county She will be buried Thursday at 11 am at the Malcom grave near Eastville Rev Willie Athens will lead funeral rites She is survived by four sons Griffeths and others and many grandchildren The deceased was a member of Mara Hill Baptists since childhood and many friends mourn her passing.
Sheriff and deputy from Whitfield County arrested W A Neely and his wife during an early morning automobile stop in Dalton then transported them to Dalton. Neely was held on a $200.90 bond with a $25 ward paid by local police. No charges appear against other party members.
