The Court of Ordinary of Clarke County orders the sale at public auction on the first Tuesday of July in Athens containing half an acre more or less. The land lies bounded by J A Pitner Hubbard S King and Barber Street with improvements, property of the late Joel B Kennard. Terms cash. June 1907 Maria K Hodgson Administratrix.
Sheriff sale notices list a July sale in Clarke County Georgia seizing a 40.25 acre lot on the Athens Lexington road bounded by Kin Hebrew estate Herrington and Ann Herring estates the Will Williams property levied to satisfy a city court execution in favor of Billups Phinizy dated June 6 1907 followed by a separate notice of a General Assembly bill to amend Clarke County roads and revenues board and a petition from Athens residents to Hart County secretary of state Phillip Cook mentions.
Mr. G. Hauser was yesterday elected doorkeeper of the lower house of the genial assembly on the first ballot by a vote of 97. He is a splendid citizen beloved in Athens and across the state. Friends caucused late Tuesday night to secure the place, and the election is regarded as securing a capable officer for the term.
Davison Nicholson announces a major building expansion after closing a trade with Dr. W A Carlton. They will tear out partitions on the building’s second floor to enlarge carpet, house furnishings, millinery, suit and cloak departments, aiming to be the state’s best. A sale on skirts, suits, carpets, mailings, rugs, curtains and millinery runs now to reduce stock before construction begins. Also noted is a Georgia railroad corporate filing for the Georgia Carolina Railway Company to span about sixty miles from Athens through Clarke Madison Franklin and Hart to the Savannah River and on toward South Carolina, with capital stock of 1000 shares of 100 each and a 101-year charter.
Messrs T J and F C Shackelford and C N Hodgson bought two Clayton Street buildings from Capt R Nickerson for 12000. Dozier Realty arranged the sale. The buyers plan a forty room modern hotel, with plans to be drawn soon and erection to follow, boosting Athens hotel capacity and city growth.
Senator Hardman introduces a senate bill to make the chair of the agricultural college trustees ex officio a member of the University of Georgia board. The measure would place Hon. J. J. Conner of Bartow on the University of Georgia board if passed.
Atlanta June 26 E T Brown general counsel for Seaboard Air Line met with Comptroller General Wright over the railroad’s tax returns. The Seaboard value rises from about 10 million to 17 million with permission to notify company officials before action. Gas companies Macon Athens Columbus Savannah Augusta accept increases as readjusted.
