Georgia 1911 Commencement in Georgia's Historic Chapel

The 1911 Georgia commencement concluded in the old chapel with 11 graduates in arts science and law, honors to Kelley and Moise, lists of graduates across disciplines, and numerous prizes announced for excellence in writing languages and ethics. Big Rally Urges County Bond Vote and Education Use

County commissioners approved keeping courthouse property intact for county education if bonds pass next month. City Attorney Shackelford says two thirds of October voters are needed, about twelve hundred votes. Citizens newly eligible may register with Tax Collector Linton before the bond election. A countywide rally Saturday at the city hall invites all residents to discuss the issue.

Seniors sang We're the champions of the South we're the jolly Georgia boys that fear no harm, a lively moment during the senior oration commencement ceremony. Clarke County commissioners discussed forming a combined city and county chamber to promote Athens and surrounding areas, attract industry, and draw in settlers.
