Mrs James Frazer buried at High Shoals

Mrs James Frazer mother of Mrs Dr E H Halay of this city and grandmother of Mr James W Morton died at Cordele last Saturday. Her body was brought to High Shoals for burial. The funeral and interment were held Sunday with a large company in attendance.

Peace talks fail at Buffalo mediation conference

Niagara Falls June 16 American delegates Justice Lamar and Frederick Lehmann met Carranza and Villa representatives in four hour talks aiming to unite constitutionalists with mediation. The mission failed as Carranza spokesmen rejected a provisional president acceptable to all and argued the constitutionalist army would handle the Mexican problem without foreign interference.

Memory Loss Shocks Alumni Orator Frederick T Myers

Hon. Frederick T. Myers, who spoke at the University of Georgia alumni gathering, was found in a critical memory lapse after his address. He remembered nothing of the trip from Tallahassee, the Athens visit, or the events of the day, though physically well apart from the amnesia. Doctors are puzzled and he remains under careful observation.

Athens High School Wins In South Scholarship Competition

Brenau College Conservatory offered twelve scholarships to southern high schools. Athens High School earned two of nine finalists with Elizabeth Davis and Lucille Cox, Lugisé Cox receiving an $80 music scholarship for winning the Eighth district music contest. Four University commencement speakers include Athens graduates. the school’s past training and performance in competitive exams are praised.

Central Presbyterian Church to Dedicate New Quarters

The Prince Avenue church reopens as Central Presbyterian at Milledge Avenue corner. Rev Samuel J Cartledge will preach the dedication sermon at 11 am on Sunday June 21. The $35,000 house features the city’s finest pipe organ, built with funds from within the congregation. Many visitors from outside the city are expected for the ceremony.

Trustees Urge Better Attendance On Commencement Exercises

The University trustees passed a resolution calling for improved attendance at commencement events in the chapel and sought methods to increase student presence. They named ex-officio members to branch institution boards for two-year terms including representatives from State College Agriculture North Georgia Agricultural College and others.

Dodd Scholarship Fund Created at University

The University of Georgia trustees received a $500 donation from Eugene and Harry Dodd of Atlanta to create a new Dodd scholarship fund. The fund will support worthy students who must borrow to attend college, with the donors having once benefited from the Brown fund themselves. The trustees designated the gift to a lasting scholarship for future Georgia men.
