The Georgia Supreme Court ruled yesterday in two linked cases, Clarke County clerk Tate Wright and the board of roads and revenues defeating former clerk J B Gamble. The long dispute, dating to 1910, centered on removal of office books and authority to hold the clerkship, with Judge Brand initially ruling for Gamble before the high court upheld Wright. Representing Clarke County were John J Strickland, and Gamble’s side featured Cobb and Erwin.

Boy Drowns Bathing in Bobbin Mill Creek Near Middle River
Charlie Freeman, a colored boy and employee of the Lipscomb family, drowned while swimming in the Bobbin Mill branch near its confluence with the Middle River. He could not swim and disappeared beneath the water as two other local boys watched. A crowd of about 300 Black and a few white residents scoured the stream but the body remained unrecovered as the night ended. The father’s employer aided in the search.

Auto crashes into cafe door on Clayton street
An automobile forced to a stop near the Compton cafe on Clayton street last night around 9. Mr. J. P. Wade’s mail wagon team intervened, preventing a crash. Ben Tuck, a novice driver, jumped in and opened the throttle, bending the wagon axles but injuring no one.

Eight year old girl survives 40 foot well fall in Brooklyn
Sallie Garnett, a young girl from the West Broad street area, slipped while drawing water from a rope and bucket well. She plunged forty feet into four feet of water but clung to the rope and was rescued by neighbors. She sustained only a sprained ankle and bruises.

Officer Bill Brittain of Athens police reports his purebred hen has laid three eggs a day for five days, producing thirteen chicks two weeks old while moving homes and caring for the brood. The family notes no rooster on site and credits the hen’s unusual productivity to practical thrift in the barnyard. City council verdict in Barry case with suspended fine
The city council found Barry guilty of a crime tried Monday evening. A fine of two hundred dollars and six months on the streets were imposed, with one hundred dollars paid and the other hundred suspended pending good behavior. Barry pledged reform and agreed to pay the second hundred if rules were violated. The council adjourned to meet Friday evening.

Athens Railway Works Up Power At Mitchells Bridge Plant
The Athens Railway and Electric Co expands Mitchells Bridge hydro electric plant from near 1000 horsepower to add 200 more. After completion the Tallassee power will also be increased by several hundred horsepower. The Barnett Shoals plant near city yields about 2590 hp and runs most hours, while the Tallassee Shoals and the city steam plant will receive attention after Mitchells Bridge is finished.
