The University of Georgia marked the 111th commencement with the dedication of Peabody Hall in the chapel. Dr H Horne of New York spoke on education and the future of the profession, praising Peabody and Chancellor Barrow. Trustees accepted gifts totaling over fifty thousand dollars for teacher training in Georgia.

Athens Council Eyes Franchise Renewal for Atlanta Carolina Electric
An adjourned meeting last night discussed renewing the franchise with Atlanta Carolina Electric Railway Co. A new company has formed and pledges capital to build a line from Atlanta to Augusta via Athens. Grady Avenue paving was debated as petitions from property owners seek delay and study by the street committee. A Recorder's Court bill for Athens was also captioned for introduction, to replace the Mayor's Court per the charter amendments.

Mr P Barber Dies After Heart Trouble at 65
Mr P Barber of Madison County died Wednesday night at 8 from heart trouble. Funeral held at Bethaven Church with Rev Willie Saye officiating. He leaves a wife Georgia, a daughter Rosina, two married daughters and a son, plus four brothers H B and S M Barber of Barberville Athens and John C D Barber of Madison County. He was 65 and well known in Athens and Madison for much of his life.

The body of Mrs. Carson who died Wednesday will leave this morning over the Central of Georgia railroad for Buckhead where the funeral and burial will occur today. Vegetables and fruits advertised at Williamson's, including egg plants, beans, cucumbers, squash, beets, cabbage, tomatoes, celery, corn, peppers, dewberries, cantaloupes, and pineapples, are listed with notices to shop today.

Athens Defeats Elbertonians In Local Elks Ball Game
Yesterday afternoon at Sanford field the Athens team defeated the Elbertonians three to two. Local Elks and visiting Elberton, Cunningham, Catch, and Creekmore players competed with Ritcher on battery for Athens. Sheriff Jackson and Dick Weil starred. After the game a Georgia barbecue preceded by a hearty eats session.

Trustees to Honor Georgia War Era Students With Degrees

Yesterday morning at 9 30 the board of trustees of the State College of Agriculture began its annual meeting for 1913. Capt J J Connor agr icultural commissioner presided with most members present except Dudley Hughes in Washington and J W Bennett arriving tomorrow. The executive committee for next year was named as Hardman Newton and McMullan. A committee on legislation will be named today by President Connor. Routine business included apportionment estimates and the president Soule’s report. There were no faculty openings or radical actions. An on site plant and farm inspection with the University board is set for 3 this afternoon.

Poultry Show Moved to November Big Exhibit Planned
The Southern Poultry Association announces one of its largest falls exhibits to be held November 19 20 21 and 22 in Athens Georgia with plans laid by Secretary L L Jones and a committee including R E Bradberry T E Jago and J F Rhodes. A premium list and advertising push will accompany the event aimed at drawing exhibitors and boosting the city with chamber of commerce support. Prof L L Jones travels to promote the show and Georgia agricultural colleges poultry program while Athens is touted as a leading center for fanciers and premiums in the South.
