Farmer Worth Hundred Thousand to Be Tried for Burning a Barn
Danielsville Ga July 29 Judge Walker of the new superior court circuit will hear cases here for Judge Meadow due to disqualification. The state case against W H David, a farmer reputed to be worth a hundred thousand dollars, will be taken up tomorrow. He is charged with instigating the burning of Dr O L Deadwyler’s barns at Carlton months ago. Several Athens lawyers are present at the court this week.

Building Collapse at Weatherly Stables Injures No One
Fifteen workmen on a roof at the Weatherly stables on Broad street were knocked to the ground when the roof and timbers collapsed after a recent fire. Remarkably, none were seriously hurt though several sustained minor injuries. One owner, Coroner C. N. Weatherly, escaped by diving into a corner office as the timbers fell. A sleeping negro boy in the improvised office woke and fled. The collapse covered about five thousand square feet and was blamed on sloughing brick walls. Rebuilding began within thirty minutes.

The city hall bird atop the tower shifted its position during a recent storm. Previously facing the sun and courthouse, it now points south toward the university and college farm after last Saturday’s wind and lightning. A nearby transformer sparked a small fire but the prison remained untouched. Fine tender corn, snap beans, eggs, Georgia peaches, ripe cantaloupes, head lettuce, and cucumbers are advertised.
