Rain fell heavily Saturday and Sunday across parts of northeast Georgia, bringing relief after a long drought. The drought had already damaged corn, but cotton largely escaped, remaining clean and free of weeds as stalks strengthened. The timely downpour is expected to boost crop prospects greatly.

The governor named S C Upson of this city to succeed himself as solicitor of the city court of Athens for a four year term starting September 12 1911. The senate is expected to confirm. Also P C King named solicitor for the Fort Gaines city court for a two year term beginning August 27 1911.
Police chase a theft at S A L station after Ben Walden reports eight dollars missing from a coat pocket. Suspect Jackson, a 19 year old, recently released from a gang, is sought. his father vows to press a warrant for the alleged theft of a gold watch he owned. The case follows past suspicions in Gwinnett County.
Students and business men are invited to enroll in a three year law course by mail with an LL.B. degree upon satisfactory examination before a federal judge. Advertisement by W. F. Stockmann at Gilbert House in Athens Georgia. The region is described as one of Georgia’s finest farming sections.

Clerk Wood saw steady but light in person payments for the 1911 second city tax installment. Out of town checks arrived by mail from residents away for summer, some routed through Athens agents. The deadline is the 31st, after which executions and legal collection will follow, with marshal notice.

Frant Kidd faces a nuisance conduct trial next term while Ida Brooks case was carried to the next regular meeting due to illness. Hon W R Wilson older brother of Capt J P Wilson of Athens died at his Camak home in Warren County Sunday at 7 00 pm He was near eighty years old and the funeral took place at Bairdstown Greene County his old home The Athens brother had visited the veteran recently and could not attend the funeral.
There will be a regular convocation of Keystone Chapter No 1 Royal Arch Masons this Tuesday evening at 830. The Mark Master Degree will be conferred. Visiting Companions are invited to attend. A J Garter, High Priest. Fred T Moon, Secretary.
Tom Webster, convicted of attacking a white woman in Gwinnett, Walton and Jackson counties, was hanged at 12 in the Jefferson jail. About 1,000 people gathered as the condemned man prayed, then admitted guilt in a post sentence statement. The execution closed the trio of local lynchings.
Work began on a new steel bridge over Trail Creek beyond Broad Street, spanning about 100 feet with raised floor level and a platform for foot traffic. Joint project of city and county, replacing a rotted old structure as crews advance toward completion costing about $1,200.
