Senator A O Bacon is reelected to a six year term as United States Senator from Georgia. The statewide vote was light with only 53 votes cast at the courthouse, and county results incomplete. Supporters praised his service while many did not vote due to crop season and perceived assured victory.
Special to the Banner from Atlanta July 15. The house committee on ways and means voted 13 to 9 to exclude a state board of equalizers in the tax equalization bill, favoring only county boards. The Lipscomb measure, drafted with two amendments by Mr. Sheppard, will be reported with those changes, and Lipscomb will oppose the bill bearing his name due to the removed tax equalization board. A minority report will accompany the measure.
The Athens Gas Light and Fuel Company reports over thirty thousand feet of new and relay mains laid since late November. Work advances on Baxter Street with large mains, and service pipes extend on Milledge avenues linking Lumpkin junction to Meigs. Manager Turner disclosed progress to the Banner.
Mr and Mrs W R Russell of Washington City are en route to Athens to spend the rest of the summer at University Heights They are this week at Ocean View Virginia and will visit coastal points of interest on the trip south.

In Atlanta on July 15 the senate constitutional amendments committee advanced the Milledge county proposal by a 5 to 4 vote. It would form from Burke Jefferson Emanuel and Jenkins with Midville as county seat. Opposition came only from losing counties representatives.

Moss was elected president and Co. B. Howard secretary treasurer. five vice presidents were named to form the executive committee as the group votes to standardize cotton baling and appoint weighers across Georgia. The plan aims to benefit buyers and sellers though some delegates oppose the standard bale and penalties for non conforming farmers. discussion continues.
LaGrange Georgia prepares for the Georgia Weekly Press Association gathering next Monday. A mass meeting at the courthouse and a large private banquet by Fuller Callaway for five hundred guests signal the town’s enthusiastic show of support. West Point will host an afternoon program and Governor Jack Slaton will preside over a major banquet Wednesday night.
Mrs. W. M. Haley died at the home of her brother Z T Butler at Red Stone yesterday afternoon after a long illness stemming from a hip fracture last December. She will be buried at the old home place two miles south of Commerce Wednesday at 4 PM. Sincere sympathies are extended to the bereaved.
Yesterday morning Mrs. J C Wardlaw received a cablegram from Mr Wardlaw dated Paris France stating the touring party reached Paris after crossing the Channel safely. Regards were sent to friends. The party toured England and Ireland.
Dr. J. C. Bloomfield reports the Athens board of health has received a good supply of typhoid vaccine from the State Board of Health. Citizens may apply to Dr. W. W. Brown at the city hall to obtain and have the vaccine administered, or arrange for their family physician to do so.
The Wiles and Nelson company reports a complete bill change at the Majestic today. The new title A Fight for a Million replaces yesterday's comedy, boasting a 400 night run in New York and 300 in Chicago. A fresh wardrobe and acts premiere tonight with further changes planned Friday and Saturday.
Notices from New York dated July 1, 1913 announce Colonel Marion Erwin, formerly Georgia, has resumed private law practice as part of Erwin Fried and Czaki. He will join the firm at 15 William Street, NY, continuing to handle Georgia state and federal court matters. Joseph Fried and Frederick M. Czaki also announce the reconstitution as Erwin Fried and Czaki with offices at 15 William Street and phone lines 669 Broad and 569 Broad.
Arnold and Abney offer fresh okra and sugar corn along with soft peaches. The notice lists produce for sale with no dates or locations provided.
Scotland travel note reveals Mrs. Wardlaw in Edinburgh received a letter written ten days earlier. The party plans Paris stay through Saturday and a August itinerary across Holland Germany Switzerland and Italy.
