Local burglaries widened the theft spree with two daytime break ins on Wednesday. On Cobb street a resident lost two suits while another suit was borrowed, and at the corner of Baldwin and Lumpkin Streets five dollars was stolen from a room. Police say a crew likely committed the recent robberies and may make arrests today.
Boards of trustees and the chancellor back a University of Georgia business course in Athens. The plan aims to train graduates for banking, retail, and insurance through a commerce department. The editors note growing demand for practical, specialized education in business fields.
Judge R B Russell of the Georgia Court of Appeals known as Plain Dick Russell announces his gubernatorial candidacy. He plans to publish a platform soon and says he runs as a Dick Russell man not tied to Smith or Brown. Russell has served as solicitor general and appellate judge with broad statewide support.
The trustees of the University of Georgia and of the State College of Agriculture held meetings in Atlanta yesterday. Both boards had strong attendance and met largely to discuss legislative session matters. The sessions took place in the library at the state capitol.

Soule pressed for $100,000 more for the State College of Agriculture plus $50,000 for extension work to reach farmers, while Shackelford and Branson urged $50,000 for a new academic building at the State Normal. Tech and Milledgeville’s Normal and Industrial College also presented requests for maintenance funds and dormitory capacity increases.
Southern Railway transferred its freight business from the old brick building to a newly completed brick freight terminal located opposite the passenger station. The new facility provides covered floor space ware rooms and platforms to handle traffic in coming years alongside the recently finished passenger station.

DuBose wired the Banner to announce the hearing on the special local bill for the salaries of the Athens city court judge and solicitor was moved from Tuesday the eighteenth to Thursday the twentieth to accommodate those wishing to appear before the judiciary committee. The committee meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Clarke county party asks all who wish to present views to do so on Thursday.

Atlanta July 13 The senate confirmed Governor Hoke Smiths three appointments sent two days earlier though they were routed to the special judiciary committee. The body also passed a resolution opposing officers whose terms begin after Smith leaves office. The approved names include Joel Cloud Lexington Oglethorpe county judge B E Thrasher Oconee county judge and James Davison Greene county solicitor general.
Sunday at Mr C H Allgood's Barberville home the marriage united Mrs Merck Holland of Union Point with Mr J F Allgood. The groom, once with the Athens fire department, is ill from a recent appendicitis operation, and friends wish him a swift recovery.
