University of Georgia seeks maintenance funds from state
The Georgia house appropriations committee heard requests from the University of Georgia and affiliated institutions. Special Tax of One Mill Urged for Schools by Superintendents
County school superintendents at the annual state conference unanimously urged a constitutional amendment to require every county to levy a one mill tax for school purposes with power to raise up to five mills by local boards. Three Hours Council Session Debates Bills and Projects
The mayor and council held a nearly three hour session with citizens present and several ordinances read and adopted. A large delegation from the Country Club requested sewer line extension to the river, to be studied by a special committee. Appeals included a Thompson prohibition case withdrawn and Henry Smith case postponed due to witness absence. Hull street paving and Cobb street improvements were discussed, an awning contract for Fire Hall No. 1 was let, and Chief McDurman received leave to attend a national fire chiefs meeting in New York. The stockade report and a new fire alarm box on the Boulevard at Chase street were approved. Adjournment set for next Thursday at six for Henry Smith appeal.

County superintendents from over half the counties expressed they would be glad to be invited back to Athens next July for a longer gathering. They unanimously passed a resolution thanking Dr. T J Wooster for planning the work and Prof W K Tate for his lectures and guidance during the conference at the University Summer School.
