Gainesville in Fear After Fourth Attempted Murder

Miss Lawrence daughter of W H Lawrence Gainesville Ga narrowly escaped death when four bullets struck her bedroom wall at 1 o clock this morning. Police and tracker dogs strove to catch the unknown assailant but failed as fear spreads and residents arm themselves. Vandals also looted J T Logans store while the Gainesville Oil Mill window damage and gunfire added to the unrest.

Albert Holder pleaded guilty to stealing the overcoat of L. P. Canning. Judge Cobb fined him seventy five dollars and costs, with likely time in the chain gang.

Abbeville Hosts Jefferson Davis Before Capture

Abbeville residents entertained President Jefferson Davis for an hour on May 9 1865. Davis and Mrs. Davis dined at the courthouse square, rode in a carriage with cavalry escort, then moved toward Irwinville Georgia where he was captured before dawn. Union scouts pursued him from Macon via Hawkinsville, reaching his camp near Irwinville about twenty miles from Abbeville.

Boy killed by trolley car in Atlanta

Atlanta, Feb 22. Horace Arthur Plunkett, age unknown, was struck while crossing Davis Street near Hunter by a Magnolia and Orme streetcar. Motorman C. W. Long reversed power but could not stop in time, the boy dragged under the fender and later died at a hospital. Remains were taken to H. M. Patterson's undertaking establishment.

In Baltimore on February 22 a talking canary owned by Miss Mary Somers and her aunt Miss Mary Wilkinson at 1413 West Lanley Street repeats phrases like pretty beauty and such a pretty bird. The bird spends afternoons hopping between perches and rehearsing its vocabulary, occasionally adding a short prelude of warbled notes before speaking.
